Service to Others

    RTO/ERO Service-To-Others Awards

These projects promote District participation in local, provincial, and overseas educational/community projects and raise the profile of retired teachers, other educators, educational support staff, and RTO/ERO and its members. As well, they demonstrate to the general public that RTO/ERO members continue to serve after retirement and express to potential RTO/ERO members that RTO/ERO is a dynamic organization to which they should consider belonging when they retire from active teaching.  (The total available funds is established annually by Senate.)

The Service To Others Committee may make a recommendation to the District 24 Executive for a Service To Others grant of up to $4000 for a project which is acceptable to the RTO/ERO National Office.

Examples of criteria followed by the National S.T.O. Committee may include but are not limited to:

  • Local Heritage and cultural projects;
  • Support for initiatives from First Nations’ communities;
  • Special arts and education programs for children;
  • Support for the disadvantaged;
  • Visitation/support programs for shut-ins;
  • Support for initiatives in developing countries;
  • Medical and social programs for the needy;
  • ESL, literacy, and numeracy programs.

Our list of previously approved projects is a testament to the value and success of Project - STO, as well as a good resource for ideas on the diverse selection of projects that receive funding.
