   President’s Message

You found us! Welcome to the RTO ERO District 24 Scarborough and East York website. However, you got here, we are pleased that you have decided to look for us.

We strive to be a trusted voice for seniors. RTO/ERO is a bilingual voice on healthy, active living in the retirement journey for the broader education community. Our insurance programs are designed by members for members. We promote a wide range of world-class programs, social networks, and assistance throughout retirement. Our social activities include clubs for various interests. Whether you like a physical activity like our Nordic Pole Walking Club or something more for the mind such as our Book Clubs or Bridge Club, or you are the more creative type who might be interested in our Knitters and Crafters Club, your interests can be shared because we have people who meet on a regular basis to enjoy these activities. Throughout the spring and summer months, we also have a series of day trips to theater performances at Shaw Festival, Stratford, Drayton, and St Jacobs. We even plan local boat trips and wine tours. One of our main goals is to prevent social isolation during retirement.

We have a spring luncheon, a fall luncheon and craft fair, a golf fundraiser for school breakfast clubs and a Christmas luncheon along with a Travelogue Luncheon. One of our goals is to provide an opportunity for socialization to our members in their retirement years and an opportunity to give back to the community through our Service to Others Committee. Through Hava*Java, we even meet for coffee on the last Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at Calabria Bakery on Midland Avenue. Come and join us for a complimentary coffee and treat. This will give you an opportunity to meet your fellow members and to chat informally with members of the executive if you have any questions.

We have a Political Advocacy Representative who meets with political leaders of all parties to promote topics relevant to seniors and another who provides health information on timely topics to retirees. We send birthday greetings to our senior seniors and have a telephone committee to maintain contact with them. We even have an Archivist who keeps track of all these activities over the years. Information on all of these clubs and committees is provided on a monthly basis via E-News and several times a year in our publication, Beyond the Blackboard.

We meet as an executive five times a year at the Cedarbrook Retirement Home on Markham Road near the Cedarbrae Plaza. You can find the dates on this website. All members are welcome to attend as guests. Please plan on attending our various activities and please say hello when you do.

Annemarie McKee, President
